The Pocket Gallery

Ran from approximately 2000-2002

The Pocket Gallery mainly operated in Vancouver, B.C., Victoria, and New York (as a digital pocket gallery)

The Pocket Galleries were men's white dress shirts with an iron-on ‘536' logo over the left breast. The Pocket Gallery curator would wear the gallery wherever it seemed he/she might find an amenable audience, art openings, museums, conferences, parties, etc. The art was in the pockets of the shirts. Some Pocket Galleries had more capacity than others, having more pockets. The Pocket Galleries were run in the spirit of an artist-run centre, having rotating shows and often group shows, as opposed say, to the Wallet Gallery which had a permanent collection, and was a sort of personal museum or cabinet of curiosities
