Or Gallery is seeking applicants for a temporary employment opportunity for one Marketing and Communications Intern position from from late August, 2026 to late March, 2027. The position is 30 hours per week, working primarily at Or Gallery’s 236 East Pender Street location, Vancouver, BC.

The Marketing and Communications Intern will support Or Gallery staff in cultivating and expanding our virtual community through creative experimentation and strategic content management.

THE CANDIDATE

The Marketing and Communications Intern role is suited for Art History, Visual Arts, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Museum Studies, Arts Management, Collections Management, Curatorial Practice or equivalent post-secondary graduates, wishing to gain professional experience and further develop their careers and capabilities in an artist-run-centre context.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft engaging exhibition-related promotional copy under the Director/Curator’s guidance.
  • Manage and regularly update the social media content calendar.
  • Ensure digital marketing promotions align with the Or Gallery Branding & Style Guide.
  • Maintain the Gallery’s website with up-to-date news and details of new exhibitions and programming.
  • Regularly audit and update listings across external digital platforms.
  • Produce digital graphics and visual assets for promotional purposes.
  • Prepare marketing reports on social media performance.
  • Create tailored promotional materials to encourage group attendance and tour participation.
  • Prepare media kits for dissemination to press, arts publications, editorials, and media outlets.
  • Response to materials submission requests from the media.
  • Liaise with artists, photographers, and partner institutions to obtain reproduction permissions and ensure proper attribution.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the gallery.
  • Engage with onsite gallery visitors.
  • Assist with exhibition interpretation for gallery audiences.
  • Attend and facilitate public events, receptions, and gallery openings.
  • Assists in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an Art History, Visual Arts, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Museum Studies, Arts Management, Collections Management, Curatorial Practice or equivalent degree or diploma from a college or university.
  • Computer skills required: Intermediate skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) and WordPress; proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent digital research capabilities.
  • Intermediate English is required, while other languages are considered an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of contemporary art and Canadian artist-run centres.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) Ethics and a deep sense of cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and ability to write critically.
  • Ability to multitask autonomously as well as within a team setting.
  • Availability to work various times of the week, including some evenings and on weekends.
  • Self-driven with excellent time management skills to balance self-directed time as well as a regular schedule as per gallery hours.
