In Solidarity

Together, and in solidarity, we turn to our collective responsibility as cultural institutions and remain steadfast in our accountability to Indigenous sovereignty. We stand ready to implement changes within our own structures to support a long-term commitment to global justice, from Turtle Island to Palestine.

Or Gallery commits to the Palestine Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), in line with our 2021 Pacific Association of Artist Run Centres (PAARC) commitment to the Palestine-led call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS).

In light of the severe escalation of the genocidal assault on Gaza, Or Gallery recognizes the inherent links between the Indigenous fight for justice on all occupied lands, including where Or Gallery is located. All forms of oppression are connected; a call for a free Palestine is a call for freedom everywhere.

Or Gallery values Indigenous sovereignty across, and in solidarity with, communities near and far. We share an active and ongoing acknowledgement that the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ people and territories that we gather upon are timeless. That the rich and culturally diverse peoples of and on this territory are always in dialogue with, and in direct responsibility to, the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh voices that echo upon the land.

We stand with our colleagues who already support this movement and encourage our peer institutions, writers, cultural workers and artists to join now.

None of us are free until we are all free. May Palestine be free, just as these lands have always been and will always be sovereign Indigenous lands.
