In Lines, Zachary Ayotte reflects on maintenance as both an act and an idea. Beginning with etymology, he explores the relationship maintenance has to care and attention, and tries to determine what maintenance is and why it is so often neglected. This project was written in response to an invitation from Christina Battle, whose curatorial work helped spark the essay. Please read, print, share, and circulate this resource. Lines was edited by Jordan Kelly and Cherie Kelly.
